The G20 Digital Economy Working Group meeting begins in Pune

Pune, Jun 12: Cyber security and adoption of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) will be on the agenda of the G20 Digital Economy Working Group to start in Pune on Monday. Alkesh Kumar Sharma, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), while addressing the press in Pune on Sunday said that a Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) would also be signed on the sidelines of the meeting to be held between June 12-14.

Sharma pointed out that the work of drafting of ministerial declaration would start with the Pune meeting. Topics likely to be discussed are digital public infrastructure (DPI) and securitizing the digital economy. A toolkit and awareness module will also be worked on about the subject.
 
 
 
Another topic that would be worked on and discussed would be digital skilling. “We are looking for common recognition of digital skills,” he said. This Sharma said would allow G20 countries to recognize certifications and skills amongst each other. Sharma explained that such a frame would help in addressing skill gaps in countries. Pune’s meeting will also see deliberation about DPI, with India expected to showcase its successes in the sector. India’s initiatives like COWIN, Aadhar-enabled payment systems, and Soil Health Card will be exhibited. Also, the conference will showcase the ease of doing business in e-governance and showcase India’s stack for the globe. Sharma added that 40 percent of the world’s digital transactions take place in India. Other than nations, the meeting will see the participation of international organizations like UNDP, UNESCO, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and others. MoUs will be signed between countries to explore cooperation on the subject of DPI and the digital economy.
 
 
A global exhibition would also be held in parallel to showcase 14 experience zones on Digital Identity, Fast Payment, DigiLocker, Soil Health Card, E-National Agriculture Market, Unified Mobile App for New-Age Governance, Open Network for Digital Commerce, Anamorphic experience, Seamless travel experience at the airport, Language Translation, Learning Solution, Tele-Medical Consultation Experience and Gamification of Digital India Journey.
